An open-minded approach to plant-based eating!
Daytime Vegan is a lifestyle that shows you how to create better balance in your eating habits. I want to offer a less militant, friendlier, path to eating plant-based instead of perpetuating the “all or nothing” approach that many vegans have. Switching just one of your daily meals to a plant-based meal helps your health, the animals, and the environment more than you know! Every little bit counts. Daytime vegan is for anyone who is currently vegan, has an interest in transitioning to 100% veganism, and non-vegans who just want tips for adding more healthy plant foods to their daily diet.
The Daytime Vegan lifestyle consists of eating delicious vegan breakfasts, vegan lunches, and dinners that contain meat, seafood, or poultry. The key is to only eat 100% plant foods during the day, hence the name Daytime Vegan! Most of us have severely unbalanced diets. We eat a ton of animal products every single day. Eggs, bacon, sausage, ham, milk, or toast with butter for breakfast. Turkey sandwich, salad with chicken, burger, hot wings, or baked chicken/fish with veggies for lunch. And of course plenty of meat for dinner. This is not healthy! Especially with the poor quality of animal products grocery stores are selling these days. This is a very unbalanced approached to eating, in my opinion. My goal is to encourage balance by switching things around. Instead of eating mostly animal products with a small amount of whole plant foods, try eating mostly whole plant foods with a very small amount of animal products.
“NUMEROUS SCIENTIFIC STUDIES NOW CONFIRM THAT A WHOLE FOODS DIET COMPRISED PRIMARILY OF VEGETABLES, FRUITS, GRAINS, LEGUMES, AND NUTS WITHOUT ADDED OIL, SUGAR, AND SALT IS OPTIMAL FOR HUMAN HEALTH, NOT ONLY PREVENTING A BROAD RANGE OF DISEASE AND ILLNESSES, BUT ALSO REVERSING SOME OF THE MOST DANGEROUS CHRONIC CONDITIONS. THIS FINDING IS OF THE HIGHEST IMPORTANCE TO THE COMMONWEALTH BECAUSE IT COMMUNICATES A TRUTH THAT HAS THE POWER TO SAVE LIVES.”
Sometimes the word ‘vegan’ scares people. They assume the meal is going to be bland and boring. I want people to know they can eat healthy & tasty plant based meals and not miss the meat! With the Daytime Vegan lifestyle, breakfast always consists of a fruit and/or vegetable smoothie, along with any other homemade vegan breakfast dish you would like to eat (oatmeal, overnight oats, toast, vegan pancakes, grits, vegan waffles, rice, etc…). Many of us do not get enough raw vegetables and fruits into our bodies on a daily basis, so I found this is the easiest and quickest way to do so. People love making these smoothies because you rarely taste the vegetables when they are blended with fruit! Also, sometimes it takes me several hours to finish my smoothies because they are so large. Don’t feel the need to scarf it down all at once if you can’t. Smoothies are very filling since there is so much fiber in them.
I find that many people want to eat healthy, but have a hard time figuring out which healthy lifestyle is best for them. Several of my friends would always consider veganism, but have never given it a try because the thought of giving up meat forever is much more than they bargained for! They love the Daytime Vegan lifestyle because it gives them the best of both worlds! They are healing their body by eating healthy, fresh, minimally processed plant foods during the day, but can still satisfy their meat craving during dinner. I suggest your dinner plate consist mostly of the vegetable side dishes and make meat the smallest portion on your plate.
Daytime Vegan is not a diet program. It is a very simple way of eating that does not require any complicated calorie counting. The key to this lifestyle is eating freshly made plant foods; not frozen “healthy” meals found in the freezer section of your grocery store. Most of the time when eating those “healthy” frozen meals the portions are so small you almost always end up binge eating on junk food afterwards. Sometimes you may even eat 2 or 3 frozen meals at a time just to satisfy your hunger. Many of these frozen meals contain tons of unhealthy, disease-causing, preservatives and other harmful ingredients. I highly advise those wanting to live a healthy lifestyle long-term to try Daytime Vegan! People who choose the Daytime Vegan lifestyle eat this way for the rest of their lives because it’s so easy! Eat fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains for breakfast, lunch, and snacks. These healthy plant foods help fight disease, give us energy, and heal our bodies. For dinner eat a small amount of high quality (preferably organic) meat, seafood, and poultry. That’s all there is to it!
An amazing benefit to this lifestyle is that we are able to eat more food, if we want, and not feel guilty! The fiber in whole plant foods gets us fuller quicker, which is why it’s a little harder to overeat on homemade vegan food. On the other hand, we can easily chow down on a double quarter pound bacon cheeseburger with all the fixings, large fries, a large soda, and 2 apple pies all in one sitting. That’s probably at least two pounds of unhealthy food consumed in minutes. Why? Because there’s no fiber! Seriously, where’s the fiber in that meal? The lettuce and tomato on the burger?
